Contest Description
George R. Whitney served as the District Administrator for the New England and Bermuda District of Key Club from 1988 until his death in 2019. One of Mr. Whitney's focuses as District Administrator was to keep the District Educational Conference affordable and accessible. In this spirit, the Kiwanis Foundation of New England is funding up to ten George Whitney DECON Scholarships. These scholarships will cover the registration cost for first-time attendees to attend the District Educational Conference (the recipient will still need to pay for the cost of their portion of their hotel room).
Contest Rules
In order to qualify for the George R. Whitney DECON Scholarship, you must:
Be a dues-paid member of a Key Club in the New England and Bermuda District.
Have not previously attended the District Educational Conference.
Preference will be given to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, who will be able to use things they learn at DECON to help lead their Key Club in the 2024-2025 school year.
Applications are due January 15. Recipients will be notified by February 1 (two weeks before the Early Bird Registration Deadline).
Please note:
All DECON attendees must register through their Key Club (the Key Club Advisor registers all students and chaperones from the Key Club as a group). The registration deadline is March 1, 2024. The scholarship will be applied as a credit to the Key Club's DECON registration invoice.
All Key Clubs sending students to DECON must also send the required number of chaperones. All chaperones are background checked by Kiwanis International.
This scholarship only covers the registration cost--it does not cover the student's portion of their hotel room. All DECON attendees are required to stay on site at the conference hotel Friday and Saturday night. The Key Club Advisor who registers you is responsible for assigning housing and roommates in the registration system.
Not registering on time for DECON 2024 will forfeit the scholarship.
